How to get to Böckstein, Gastein
The shortest way to relaxation
The tourist resort Böckstein, part of Gastein, is situated in the midst of the Austrian Alps and is easy to reach in every season.Once you have reached the Gastein valley, even your car can enjoy a vacation. Public buses and the Ski bus let you circulate mostly free of charge in the valley and to the thermal spas.
Arriving from Munich to Böckstein, Gastein
From Germany, take highway A8 in the direction of Munich/Salzburg. Cross the Austrian border near Bad Reichenhall. Remember, you have to buy a Vignette for Austrian toll highways! The vignette can be purchased directly at the border station Walserberg. Exit at Graz/Salzburg-Süd/Villach and take highway A10 up to the exit Sankt Johann im Pongau/Bischofshofen/Zell am See. Follow the country road Pinzgauer Bundesstrasse, after approx. 25 km you will reach the road to Gastein. The Pension Gruber is situated at the crossing to the Südtiroler Strasse.
Arriving from Vienna
Follow highway A1 (ATTENTION: in Austria you have to buy a Vignette for highways) in the direction of Pressbaum/St. Pölten/Linz/Salzburg. Leave A1 at the exit Graz/Salzburg Süd/Villach and follow A10 up to the exit Sankt Johann im Pongau/Bischofshofen/Zell am See. Then follow the Pinzgauer Bundesstrasse, and after approx. 25 km the Gasteiner Bundesstrasse. The Pension Gruber is situated on Südtiroler Strasse, a right side street of the Gasteiner Bundesstrasse.

Arriving from Italy
From Villach take highway A10 (ATTENTION: in Austria you have to buy a Vignette for highways) in the direction of Salzburg. At the crossing Spittal – Millstätter See follow in the direction of Lienz and Lendorf. Go in the direction Obervellach, then Mallnitz. It will take about one and a half hours from the border to Mallnitz.
Here you put the car on a train crossing the Tauern mountains. This is a very quick and comfortable way to reach Gastein.
The trip takes 12 minutes, dogs are allowed, roundtrip tickets are EUR 30.-- per car
